Rachin Ravindra sets a new record for New Zealand by smashing a remarkable double century against South Africa, breaking a record that stood for 25 years.

Rachin Ravindra Double Century– In the 1st Test of 2024 between New Zealand and South Africa at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, Rachin Ravindra notched up his inaugural Test century before going on to achieve a remarkable double century. Ravindra, a left-handed batsman, broke a longstanding New Zealand record during his stellar innings.

Coming in at number three for the NZ vs SA 1st Test, Ravindra played a commanding knock of 240 runs off 366 deliveries, showcasing his prowess with 26 boundaries and 3 sixes. This outstanding performance set a new benchmark for New Zealand players in their maiden Test centuries, surpassing the previous record held by Mathew Sinclair, who scored 214 in 1999 against West Indies in Wellington.

Despite making only his 4th Test appearance and having played just 7 innings since his debut in November 2021, Ravindra has already established himself as a batting all-rounder with an impressive average of over 52 and a total of 313 runs. # Rachin Ravindra Double Century

A notable highlight of the match was Ravindra’s formidable partnership of 232 runs with Kane Williamson for the 3rd wicket. Williamson, who also secured a century, became the first New Zealand batter to reach 30 centuries in Test cricket.

The duo’s exceptional performance guided New Zealand to a commanding total of 511-10 in the 1st innings at Bay Oval after the early dismissals of openers Tom Latham and Devon Conway. Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips contributed 39 and 34 runs respectively, further solidifying New Zealand’s dominant position in the match. # Rachin Ravindra Double Century

Despite South African skipper Neil Brand securing a 6-wicket haul, most of his victims were tailenders, and the damage had already been done by the Kiwis. Ruan de Swardt managed to pick up 2 wickets. South Africa faced a challenging start in their batting innings, losing 3 wickets with just 30 runs on the board.

Openers Edward Moore (23), Neil Brand (4), and Raynard van Tonder (0) fell quickly, with Kyle Jamieson claiming 2 wickets early on to deal a significant blow to the Proteas. Matt Henry secured the third wicket. The NZ vs SA Test series is set to feature two matches.
