Sarfaraz Khan IPL 2024 contract – Indian batsman Sarfaraz Khan is in the running to secure an Indian Premier League (IPL) contract once again, this time for the 17th edition of the league. The cricketer gained attention after delivering a standout performance on his Test debut for India against England in Rajkot.
According to reports from Anandabazar Patrika, three franchises have shown interest in acquiring Sarfaraz Khan. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has expressed a desire to have him on board, with mentor Gautam Gambhir recommending the batter to strengthen the team’s batting line-up.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are also in the race to sign Sarfaraz Khan for IPL 2024, with MS Dhoni reportedly giving the go-ahead for the team to bid for him. Additionally, defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are interested in having the batter join their squad.
Sarfaraz Khan had previously been a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore for three IPL seasons from 2015 to 2018. While he played decent innings for the team during that period, he subsequently parted ways with the franchise. In the IPL 2023 auction, he represented Delhi Capitals but went unsold.
Having participated in 50 IPL matches from 2015 to 2023, Sarfaraz Khan has accumulated a total of 585 runs with a lone fifty to his credit. His IPL journey included stints with Punjab Kings from 2019 to 2021 before joining Delhi Capitals. Amidst the reported interest from CSK, KKR, and RCB, the outcome of his future in the league remains uncertain.
Sarfaraz Khan made a notable impact on his Test cricket debut for India, scoring 68 runs in the first innings before being run out. Undeterred, he capitalized on the opportunity in the second innings, securing another half-century and finishing with an unbeaten 62 runs.
Michael Vaughan, impressed by Sarfaraz Khan’s remarkable debut, commended the batter for his outstanding performance. Vaughan emphasized Sarfaraz’s aggressiveness, exceptional ability against spin, and adeptness at rotating the strike, asserting that he is an ideal No.6 for India. Speaking with Cricbuzz, Vaughan stated, “I said after the first day, he looks like the perfect No.6. He is aggressive, plays spin brilliantly, rotates the strike. So even the good balls are going for ones and twos. And he’s hungry for runs. He has got a huge amount of runs in first-class cricket.”
Acknowledging Sarfaraz’s consistent performance throughout his career, Vaughan highlighted the significance of seizing the opportunity to play for India at the Test level. Sarfaraz Khan is set to showcase his skills in the upcoming fourth Test against England in Ranchi on February 23. With India leading the series 2-1, the batter aims to further solidify his position in the team during the longest format of the game.
