The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has enlisted the expertise of Team India head coach Rahul Dravid, chief selector Ajit Agarkar & NCA head VVS Laxman to enhance the quality of domestic cricket. According to reports from the Times of India, the BCCI is actively seeking to uplift the standards of the domestic cricket scene.
Reports suggest that a three-member committee has been formed by the BCCI, comprising Team India head coach Rahul Dravid, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and NCA head VVS Laxman. These esteemed figures of Indian cricket have been tasked with providing their insights on how to elevate the state of domestic cricket.
In recent times, the BCCI has shown a renewed commitment to bolstering domestic cricket. They have implemented a requirement for all Indian Cricket Team players to represent their respective state teams during periods when they are not involved in international duties, and this initiative has received positive feedback from players.
A source closely associated with the BCCI revealed that the organization has encountered numerous challenges in organizing domestic cricket. Highlighting these challenges, the source confirmed that Dravid, Laxman, and Agarkar have been approached to offer their recommendations.
Numerous challenges arose during the organization of men’s domestic cricket, with a notable concern being the frequent occurrence of matches being washed out or significantly shortened in North India, especially during the Ranji Trophy season, due to adverse weather conditions in December and January.
Dravid, Laxman, and Agarkar have been invited to provide their recommendations for enhancing men’s domestic cricket. The decision was reached during the Apex Council meeting held by the BCCI on Monday, March 18th. Lately, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been emphasizing the significance of domestic cricket. He recently attended the final match of the 2024 Ranji Trophy.
Furthermore, the BCCI has introduced an incentive for Test match players to encourage their focus on red-ball cricket. This initiative has prompted both international and domestic players to view domestic cricket with greater seriousness.
According to reports, the BCCI is on the verge of making a decision regarding the potential Associate membership for the Union Territories of Daman and Diu, following their persistent request for such recognition. It has been disclosed that the governing body has established a two-member committee to address this matter.
BCCI treasurer Ashish Shelar and joint secretary Devajit Saikia have been appointed to the committee. Their role will entail evaluating whether the BCCI will grant Associate membership to the Union Territories of Daman and Diu.
The source mentioned that Ashish Shelar and Devajit Saikia will promptly prepare a report and present it to the BCCI’s Apex Council. Additionally, reports indicate that the new National Cricket Academy (NCA) is scheduled to be completed before October 2024.
