Scheduled for June 1 to 29, the highly-anticipated ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will be co-hosted by the United States of America and the West Indies. In a pre-tournament announcement, Disney+ Hotstar revealed that mobile users will have the opportunity to enjoy all the T20 World Cup action for free on their platform.
This OTT service will provide complimentary streaming of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 without the need for a subscription. Consequently, fans can watch all the games on their mobile phones without any financial commitment.
Disney+ Hotstar has recently been offering free streaming of major cricket tournaments, seen by experts as a strategy to regain subscribers. In the previous year, the platform provided free mobile streaming of the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup, following JioCinema’s free streaming of IPL 2023.
Sajith Sivanandan, Head of Disney+ Hotstar, emphasized the company’s belief that making events like the Asia Cup and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup accessible to a broader audience would contribute to the growth of the overall ecosystem.
ICC T20 World Cup 2024
ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will feature participation from a total of 20 teams, organized into four groups with five teams in each group. The top two teams from every group will progress to the Super Eights. During the Super Eight stage, the eight teams will be further divided into two groups, each consisting of four teams. Subsequently, the top two teams from each Super Eight group will move on to the semifinals.
Speaking of Team India, they find themselves in Group A, sharing the stage with traditional rivals Pakistan, as well as Ireland, Canada, and co-hosts USA. The Men in Blue are set to kick off their campaign on June 5 against Ireland, followed by a clash with Pakistan four days later. On June 12, they will face the USA, concluding their group stage matches against Canada on June 15.
Since claiming victory in the inaugural edition in 2007, India has yet to secure another ICC T20 World Cup 2024 title and is determined to make a strong bid for it this year. Meanwhile, the current titleholders, England, are positioned in Group B, where they will contend with Australia, Oman, Namibia, and Scotland.
