England captain Jos Buttler expressed his fervent desire to see Jofra Archer fully recovered and performing at his best for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, slated to occur from June 1 to 29 in the West Indies and the United States of America.
Despite being a key figure in England’s victorious 2019 World Cup campaign, Jofra Archer has grappled with numerous injuries, severely limiting his appearances for the national team.
Since March 2021, he has participated in only seven white-ball matches for England. Nonetheless, Archer remains a pivotal part of England’s plans, as underscored by the ECB’s decision to award him a two-year central contract in October of the previous year.
Jofra Archer’s absence from the England squad extends back to March 2023, with his last competitive outing occurring in May of that year during the IPL. Unfortunately, his IPL stint was cut short after just one game due to an elbow concern, prompting a trip to Belgium for consultation with a specialist.
Despite briefly returning to India to play four additional matches for the Mumbai Indians, Archer was subsequently diagnosed with a recurring stress fracture, necessitating his return home for further treatment.
Despite Jofra Archer’s prolonged absence from competitive cricket for nearly a year, Jos Buttler remains optimistic about his teammate’s recovery ahead of this year’s T20 World Cup. Describing Archer as a ‘remarkable cricketer,’ Buttler emphasized Archer’s determination to return to action and highlighted his diligent efforts towards achieving it.

“Jofra Archer is an exceptional talent, and it’s been a challenging period for him not being able to showcase his skills on the field. However, with someone of his caliber, there’s always hope that with the support of the medical team, he’ll be able to regain his previous form,” expressed Buttler, as quoted by PlanetCricket
“I’m fully aware of the dedication he’s putting into his recovery, and I can see how eager he is to return,” Buttler continued. “We’ve had a couple of conversations about it. It’s genuinely thrilling to think that he might soon be back in action because as a captain, he’s the kind of player you want to have on your side, ready to take the ball.”
In contrast, Jofra Archer won’t be representing any team in the upcoming IPL 2024, set to commence from March 22. Conversely, Buttler will be representing Rajasthan Royals in the tournament.
