Tour of Pakistan Awaits Ireland Cricket Team in 2025
First-Ever Bilateral Series on Pakistani Soil – Cricket Ireland Creates History
The Ireland Cricket team is set to embark on a historic tour of Pakistan in August-September 2025. This will be the first time Ireland will play a bilateral series in Pakistan, marking a significant milestone in cricketing relations between the two nations. Previously, their encounters have primarily occurred at neutral venues during ICC tournaments.
The tour confirmation arose from discussions between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi and Cricket Ireland chair Brain MacNeice. Interestingly, the series was not part of the pre-scheduled Future Tour Programme (FTP). However, it will take place after the conclusion of the 2025 World Test Championship.
This announcement comes shortly after the PCB released a statement mentioning a potential Test series inclusion. Cricket Ireland, on the other hand, clarified through its website that the tour would feature a men’s series, marking their second senior tour to Pakistan after the women’s team’s visit in 2022.
A Budding Rivalry Adds Spice to the Tour
The upcoming series as announced by Cricket Ireland holds additional significance due to the budding rivalry between Ireland and Pakistan. This friendly competition took root during the 2007 ODI World Cup when Ireland’s victory against Pakistan resulted in the elimination of the latter.
Since then, their encounters have seen close battles and exciting finishes, including Ireland’s recent win over Pakistan in the ongoing T20I series currently tied at 1-1.
Both teams are gearing up for further contests in the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in the USA and the West Indies.
Unveiling the Details: Venues and Series Format Await Confirmation
While the tour dates (August-September 2025) are confirmed by Cricket Ireland & PCB, details regarding specific venues and the series format (including Test matches as initially suggested by PCB) are yet to be finalized.
