Mohammed Shami ruled out of IPL 2024

Mohammed Shami Ruled Out of IPL 2024 – Experienced Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami is said to have been ruled out of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) season due to a left ankle injury, as per the latest PTI report. The 33-year-old is anticipated to undergo surgery in the United Kingdom.

Shami has been absent from the field since the World Cup 2023 final against Australia, where India faced a heartbreaking defeat. Despite being the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 24 wickets in seven matches at an impressive average of 10.70, he has been unable to participate in crucial matches. The veteran pacer was initially expected to return during the home series against England, but his complete recovery has proved elusive, leading to his absence in the ongoing Test series against South Africa.

As per a Thursday PTI report, Mohammed Shami visited London in late January for specialized ankle injections. Unfortunately, these injections did not produce the desired results, leaving surgery as the only viable option. The instructions given to Shami were that after a three-week period post the injections, he could commence light running and assess his progress from that point onwards. # Mohammed Shami Ruled Out

“The injection has proven ineffective, and now the sole recourse is surgery. He will soon be heading to the UK for the procedure. Participation in the IPL appears unlikely,” stated a senior BCCI source anonymously, as quoted by PTI.

During the IPL 2023, Mohammed Shami excelled as the leading wicket-taker while playing for the Gujarat Titans (GT) franchise. He secured 28 wickets in 17 matches at an average of 18.64, with his best bowling figures being 4/11. Despite his outstanding performance, the team concluded the season as the runners-up. # Mohammed Shami Ruled Out

The effectiveness of the injury rehabilitation program implemented by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) is now under scrutiny due to the current situation. Mohammed Shami is unlikely to make a recovery in time for India’s upcoming Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand scheduled for October and November.

Sources suggest that the NCA should have considered direct surgery earlier, as a mere two months of rest and injections were deemed insufficient. Shami’s presence is considered crucial for the Indian team, especially with the upcoming Test series in Australia later this year.

“The decision for Shami to undergo surgery should have been made by the NCA from the outset. Relying on just two months of rest and injections was not an optimal approach, as evident from the current situation. Shami is a valuable asset, and his availability will be vital for the Indian team in Australia,” expressed the source. # Mohammed Shami Ruled Out

Throughout his decade-long career, Shami has represented the national team in 229 Tests, 195 ODIs, and 24 T20 matches. He has secured 229 wickets in Tests, 195 wickets in ODIs, and 24 wickets in T20s, respectively. Recently, he was honored with the Arjuna Award.
