Rishabh Pant IPL 2024

Rishabh Pant IPL 2024 – Rishabh Pant, eagerly anticipated to make a comeback in the upcoming IPL 2024, will not only return to action but also assume the role of captain for the Delhi Capitals, as confirmed by franchise co-owner Parth Jindal. Following a hiatus due to a harrowing car accident in December 2022, Pant missed the entire IPL season last year and has not participated in competitive cricket since his appearance in the Test series in Bangladesh later that month.

Providing an update on Pant’s recovery, Jindal mentioned that the wicketkeeper-batsman is actively engaged in batting, running, and has commenced wicketkeeping drills. Jindal expressed optimism about Pant’s full recovery before IPL 2024 and affirmed that he will lead the team from the opening game. Additionally, Jindal disclosed that Pant will initially play as a specialist batsman in the initial phase of the tournament.

“Rishabh is batting. He’s running. He has started his wicketkeeping. He is likely to be fully fit for the IPL,” Jindal informed ESPNcricinfo. “I am expecting Rishabh to play IPL, and he will lead from match one. For the first seven games, we are going to play him only as a batter, and depending on how his body reacts, we will take a call for the rest of the IPL,” he added.

Rishabh Pant’s recovery has continued at an impressive pace, defying expectations following multiple surgeries on three major knee ligaments in his right leg. Not only has he resumed running, but he has also started batting, showcasing his determination to return to peak form. Recently, Pant participated in practice matches organized by the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, marking a significant step in his rehabilitation.

In a video shared on social media this week, Pant demonstrated his wicketkeeping and mobility drills, highlighting his progress. The following day, he actively engaged in both batting and fielding during a 20-over match, with the BCCI medical staff closely monitoring his performance.

While Pant awaits clearance from the BCCI medical team to join the Delhi Capitals’ preparatory camp in Vishakhapatnam, the seventeenth edition of the IPL is set to commence on March 22. The defending champions, Chennai Super Kings, will kick off the tournament against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Delhi Capitals will begin their campaign against Punjab Kings on March 23.
