Shreyas Iyer’s Ranji Trophy Return – India’s batsman, Shreyas Iyer, is gearing up to participate in the semi-final of the ongoing 2024 Ranji Trophy. According to reports from the Times of India (TOI), Iyer has successfully recovered from a back spasm and is expected to play against Tamil Nadu.
Scheduled for March 2nd at the Mumbai Cricket Association’s BKC ground, the Ranji Trophy semi-final clash between Mumbai and Tamil Nadu is anticipated to benefit from the return of Shreyas Iyer. His presence is considered a significant advantage for the home team in this crucial encounter.
Having been part of the Indian squad for the initial two Tests against England, Shreyas Iyer’s batting performance was somewhat subdued, with scores of 35, 13, 27, and 29 in the first two Tests held at Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam. Subsequently, he was not selected for the last three matches. Despite speculations about his exclusion, it has been revealed that Iyer had been dealing with back pain after the second game.
Following a request from the BCCI for Shreyas Iyer to participate in the Ranji Trophy, the batsman expressed concerns about back pain. However, as Mumbai aims for another title in domestic cricket and prepares for the upcoming semi-final, Iyer has informed the state board that he is in good health and ready to play for the team.
“Yes, Iyer has officially communicated to the Mumbai Cricket Association, confirming his fitness and availability for Mumbai’s upcoming semi-final match,” revealed a source to the Times of India.
The impending Ranji Trophy semi-final presents a significant opportunity for Shreyas Iyer to rediscover his form and reclaim his position in the Indian team. While Iyer has been a crucial component in recent years, his recent performances raised concerns and led to his exclusion from Team India.
Eager to make a substantial impact for the team in the Ranji Trophy, Shreyas Iyer showcased promising form in the series against England. Despite getting starts, he struggled to convert them into significant scores. Consequently, he is determined to turn the tide in the upcoming Ranji game.
Recently, Shreyas Iyer has been prominently featured in the news. Initial reports indicated that, despite informing the Mumbai state team of back spasms, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) asserted that the batter was fit with no issues. This led to speculations, especially considering his apparent reluctance to participate in domestic cricket, despite a stern warning from BCCI secretary Jay Shah to players.
There are also reports suggesting dissatisfaction from the BCCI regarding Shreyas Iyer’s absence from the ongoing Ranji Trophy. Consequently, the governing body has decided to terminate his national contract, along with Ishan Kishan, who also did not participate. With Iyer now making a return to the Ranji Trophy, his future with Team India remains uncertain.
