On Friday, March 1, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) officially revealed their plans for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The team’s primary pre-season camp is scheduled to commence in Kolkata from March 15, precisely a week before the commencement of the IPL 2024. The highly awaited tournament is slated to kick off on March 22, with the reigning champions, Chennai Super Kings, facing off against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opening match in Chennai. KKR will initiate their IPL 2024 campaign on March 23 at Eden Gardens, their home ground, where they will compete against the 2016 IPL champions, Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Additionally, it was mentioned that some of KKR’s domestic players are currently participating in the ongoing DY Patil T20 Cup in Navi Mumbai. Consequently, KKR’s assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar, has organized a temporary training facility at the KKR Academy in Mumbai for the current week.
As per CricketNext’s report, the individuals presently undergoing training under the guidance of Abhishek Nayar include vice-captain Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy, Suyash Sharma, Anukul Roy, Vaibhav Arora, Chetan Sakariya, Sakib Hussain, and Ramandeep Singh.
KKR is determined to clinch their third IPL title this year, marking their first victory since 2014. Despite reaching the final in 2021, their performances in 2022 and 2023 were limited to the league stage. With a robust squad for IPL 2024, including the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, who missed the previous season due to a back injury, the team is optimistic about a successful campaign.
The squad, featuring key players like Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Jason Roy, Rinku Singh, Mitchell Starc, Andre Russell, Sherfane Rutherford, among others, positions KKR as formidable contenders for the championship. Shreyas Iyer will be leading the team, aiming for a standout debut season with the franchise. In the absence of Iyer last season, Nitish Rana took charge as the team’s captain. The comprehensive KKR squad for IPL 2024 includes players such as Sunil Narine, Mujeeb Rahman, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Manish Pandey, reinforcing their strength and depth.
