BCCI Head Coach

BCCI Announces Search for New Coach, Long Tenure Expected

BCCI – New Coach Position Opening Soon:

  • The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will advertise for a new head coach position soon, as revealed by BCCI secretary Jay Shah.
  • Current coach Rahul Dravid’s tenure ends in June. He is eligible to re-apply if interested.
  • The new coach will be appointed for a long term, with an initial three-year contract.

Foreign Coach Not Ruled Out:

  • The BCCI is open to both Indian and foreign candidates for the head coach position.
  • The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) will make the final decision.

Single Coach for All Formats Likely:

  • Unlike some other cricket boards, the BCCI is not considering separate coaches for different formats (Test, ODI, T20).
  • The presence of all-format players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Rishabh Pant is a factor in this decision.

Other Announcements from the Governing Body

  • Domestic Player Remuneration: While the BCCI won’t directly intervene, Shah might have hinted at potential central initiatives or recommendations to support state associations in increasing domestic player remuneration.
  • Hardik Pandya Contract: Hardik Pandya, awarded an A grade in Central Contracts, has agreed to play white-ball domestic cricket. This could be a significant boost for domestic tournaments and provide valuable playing time for Pandya.
  • Domestic Cricket Structure and NCA High-Performance Center: The BCCI will unveil the structure of domestic cricket soon, potentially including changes to tournaments, formats, and pathways for young players. The High-Performance Center at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) will be operational from August, providing a world-class training facility for aspiring cricketers.
